Mt. Carmel Fest

Bubbles and water guns: Area kids play with water guns and bubbles at the past weekend's Mt.Carmel Festival.

Mt. Carmel Wellness and Community Center is having its ninth annual Mt. Carmel Festival this Friday, July 19 through Sunday, July 21 and invites the Trinidad community to join in the celebration.

The festival will have both indoor and outdoor activities on the Mt. Carmel campus throughout the three days.

Upwards of 800 attendees participated in last year’s event. Event organizers are forecasting a significant increase in attendance this year due to expanded event programming and partners.

New to the 2019 line-up of events include live music Friday night, Bingo, and a second local youth performance directed by the Colorado Springs Conservatory.

For several years, Mt. Carmel has partnered with the Colorado Springs Conservatory to offer a free, weeklong music and theatre workshop that culminates with a performance at the festival. This year’s production, titled “Trinidad Twisted Tales,” is rooted in bringing the rich history and folklore of Trinidad to life, with sets on Billy the Kid and Kit Carson, and song and dance. The El Pomar Foundation funds the students, so they attend the workshop at no cost.

“We are excited to have our Ninth Annual Mt. Carmel Festival bring together our community,” said Community Center Manager Ashley DiPaola. “Our vision is to collaborate with community partners to provide wellness and transition services that nurture the mind, body and spirit.”

Proceeds from the event allow Mt. Carmel to fund expanded educational classes, wellness programs and community events.

The festival’s schedule of events includes activities for both young and old.  Over 25 vendors will be onsite, including food trucks, jewelry, specialty items and local art.

Admission is free for Friday and Saturday. Yet tickets are required for the pasta dinner that wraps up the festival, Sunday. Those interested can purchase tickets at the door, or by calling 719-845-4875.

Mt. Carmel Wellness and Community Center is located at 911 Robinson Avenue, Trinidad.
