Marketplace Gallery currently shows 24 local artists and town favorites, including all types of art and crafts, and features guest artists on a regular basis. The next featured guest artist is Gary Weston, from LaVeta. He will be showing his popular fantastical Sci-Fi Recycled Art.
The opening reception is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday August 2 at Marketplace Gallery during the First Friday Artwalk.
Weston received his degree in mathematics. He took some art and architecture classes and later pursued art in order to illustrate original children’s book manuscripts.
In 2009, Weston began making furniture using recycled and re-purposed materials and electronics. His recycled material furniture took on a sci-fi and “Steam Punk” theme.
Weston said “Each piece of re-purposed materials art I create is always an experiment in design, aesthetics, engineering and problem solving. Each piece is truly one of a kind because often the materials used are no longer available or would be extremely hard to find.” His pieces are often retro and influenced by themes related to the Space Age, science fiction, steampunk and the Atomic Age.
Weston has exhibited his eclectic work in numerous galleries.
The reception will also include entertainment by Terry Lakes locally known as “the piano and harmonica guy.”
