Elizabeth Dapo, HalfMad Theatre, and six rambunctious puppets will present a new twist on the classic tale Rapunzel, on the SCRT stage, Saturday, Sept. 28.
Dapo is beyond happy to be bringing a bit of what she does back to her hometown. She’s been a professional theatre artist since she began working with the SCRT at age 16. The last 10 years she’s been a professional puppeteer working for companies such as Jim Henson and National Geographic.
Dapo is currently starting her own company to bring high quality children’s and adult puppet theatre to the New York metropolitan area and is taking shows out on tour, reaching out to communities that might not normally have the means or access to the type of imaginative storytelling she loves to share.
As a director, she’s had glowing reviews, even winning an award for best musical at the 2017 Fringe Festival in Washington DC. In her spare time she builds puppets for various companies and sells her creatures and creations at art fairs and shows.
Dapo is happily married to her best friend, Joel. She loves coming home and can’t wait to share a bit of the puppet madness with her Hoehne and Trinidad family, students, and fans.
Tickets on sale now at the SCRT box office, 131 W. Main St. and online at scrtheatre.com. Two shows only, a 2 p.m. matinee and 7 p.m. evening performance on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Seating is limited as only the center seating section will be available for this event. Rapunzel is appropriate for all ages and especially geared for young audiences.
