Rocky Mountain Eye Center staff members include (L-R) Dorinda Cummings, Felicia Garcia, Dr. Anna Clark, Jackie Hoyer and Felipe Hernandez just moments before cutting the ribbon commencing the grand opening of the eye care facility in Walsenburg.

On Tuesday, Oct. 13 Rocky Mountain Eye Center (RMEC) held a virtual ribbon cutting event hosted by the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Pueblo, Inc. and streamed live with the production help of Goal Academy High School.

Dr. Donald Schlomer gave a rundown of the company’s extensive history in the region and shared his excitement for opening their new location in Walsenburg.

“We’re very pleased to have so many people attending this virtual grand opening,” said Schlomer. “It’s certainly a strange world out there but it’s nice to be able to do it this way.”

RMEC Executive Director Scott Wilson gave a virtual walkthrough tour of the renovated offices and said he felt people would really like the new location.

“We’re happy to be back in a newly refurbished office here on South Main Street right next to Safeway,” said Wilson.

The staff at the Walsenburg location also pulled three door prizes that went to three individuals who sent an RSVP via Facebook for the event.

Including the branch in Walsenburg, the company now has nine Colorado branches including those in Trinidad, Alamosa, Canon City, La Junta, Rocky Ford, Salida and Raton, New Mexico, along with several offices in Pueblo where RMEC is based.

Among services offered by RMEC include regular eye exams, contact lenses, eye glasses, oculoplastic surgery, laser surgery, Lasik eye surgery, photorefractive keratectomy, cataract treatment, and more. They are currently southeastern Colorado’s only Lasik surgery center.
