Colorado Parks and Wildlife wants governmental and non-governmental organizations and businesses to get involved in the master planning process for Fishers Peak State Park located near Trinidad and is inviting organizations to participate in interest group discussions beginning in the first quarter of 2021.
The interest group discussions are designed to gather ideas, expertise and thoughts on opportunities and challenges related to the creation of Colorado’s newest state park by reaching out to governmental and non-governmental organizations and businesses.
The Fishers Peak State Park Project Team also hopes to build relationships with members of the community through the interest group meetings, which are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2021 and following up with participants throughout the master planning process.
“These interest group discussions will play an important role in the creation of Fishers Peak State Park,” said Crystal Dreiling, CPW park manager. “We value the opinions and expertise offered by our community partners and these discussions will be key to developing the kind of park that Colorado State Parks visitors have come to expect.”
For individual members of the public looking to participate in the planning process, a detailed public survey will be sent in the coming months to capture ideas, expertise and thoughts on opportunities and challenges related to Fishers Peak State Park.
CPW opened Fishers Peak State Park to limited public access on Oct. 30 after it was purchased by a partnership that included CPW, the City of Trinidad, non-profits The Nature Conservancy (TNC), The Trust for Public Land (TPL) and Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO).
Historically, CPW has taken years to research a property and develop a master plan inclusive of public opinion, sensitive to the needs of wildlife and that protects unique habitat before starting construction of recreation infrastructure like roads, trails, toilets, parking lots, visitor centers, sewer and water service and interpretive signs.
