Two more people have died in Huerfano County due to COVID-19 and active cases of the virus continue to rise in Las Animas County.
“We are very saddened to confirm that we have lost two more members of the Huerfano County community to COVID-19,” Las Animas Huerfano Counties District Health Department Public Health Director Kim Gonzales said Tuesday.
Las Animas County currently has 71 active cases of COVID-19 while Huerfano County has 33 active cases and has suffered four deaths since the pandemic began.
All of the most recent cases reported by the health department in the two counties are experiencing symptoms. The ages of those effected run the gamut from 20-80.
The health department’s free community testing site in Las Animas County conducted tests on 187 individuals on Thursday and 133 people on Saturday. Huerfano County meanwhile tested 327 people on Friday and 251 people on Saturday.
Said the health department, “November COVID-19 cases in Las Animas and Huerfano Counties continue to increase daily. It is encouraged to spend time only with those in our household. As we move closer to the holidays, we need to really reduce the disease transmission in both Las Animas and Huerfano County.”
