Two men from Las Animas County, one in his 50s and one in his 60s, died over the past weekend from COVID-19 according to district health department.
These are the first two deaths related to the COVID-19 virus from the county.
The community and county in which the men were from and the circumstances, or place of death, were not revealed by the department. Yet they confirmed both died in hospital care after being transferred from a local hospital.
In Huerfano County the department also reported three deaths connected to the Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center and Veterans’ Community Living Center.
Las Animas County’s active case count continues to hover at 99 active cases. The county has now seen 309 total cases of COVID-19.
Following the three deaths in Huerfano County over the weekend, that county has suffered seven deaths and has an active case count of 88 cases. The county has had 191 total cases.
The district health department is operating free testing sites in both counties this week. In Las Animas County the testing site, near the Garcia Justice Center, will be run on Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. In Huerfano County the testing site is located at the Walsenburg train depot and will be operated from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
