Recently, Andrew Hoffman, President of the Trinidad Rotary Club announced they would be having their annual golf tournament, which will be held on Friday afternoon, September 25 with a shotgun start scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Trinidad Municipal Golf Course.

“Rotary Club members are busy recruiting teams, hole sponsors, and cash or prize donations needed to raise the funds necessary to fund the Dictionary Project,” said Sharon Sciacca, co-chair for the tournament.

“Illustrated Scholastic Children’s Dictionaries were ordered this past week in sufficient number to give every third grade student in Las Animas County their own personal dictionary,” said Sciacca. “Once enrollment counts are determined by school officials in October, local members of the Rotary Club will contact all county schools, public and private as well as online and home schooled students, to arrange distribution of the dictionaries, usually the first week in December.

Over the past 17 years, the club has distributed over 3500 dictionaries to third grade students and spent over $40,000.00 in acquiring the dictionaries.

This school year, given the unique circumstances presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, Rotary Club members will be required to use creative measures to locate all students and safely deliver the dictionaries.

Funding for the dictionary project is their annual golf tournament, billed as a Scramble plus Hotball golf tournament held at the local municipal golf course. Contact Sharon Sciacca at 719-859-6095 for entry forms or other information about the project and golf tournament.
