Hope in the Abyss

A computer-generated illustration titled "Hope in the Abyss" is by Trinidad State student Katie Gerhard. The graphic creation took second place in a recent statewide art competition.

Recently, one of the Trinidad State art students won 2nd place in a statewide art competition. Katie Gerhard, from Texas, submitted Hope in the Abyss, which is a computer-generated illustration.

Gerhard is a graduating nursing student who is also enrolled in our Painting 1 class on the Trinidad Campus. She is a highly active member of the campus including student government, working at the student services center and leading the charge for student advocacy on campus.

Gerhard is considering specializing in Psychiatric Nursing. She has been working with the mentally and physically disabled since she was 13 years old. These experiences have given her insight into certain issues that are the theme of this show: Suicide prevention and information. The award was presented by Catalively.org, a suicide prevention organization, along with a $250 scholarship.
