Trinidad State College is again supporting the 2021 Las Animas County Creative Writing Contest for local students and this year likely marks the largest sum of money to be awarded to writers since the contest was established in 1997.

The contest is open to K-12 students enrolled in any Las Animas County school or homeschooled in the county. Cash prizes will be awarded across four age groups: Kindergarten through second grade, third through fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade, and freshman through senior.

This year all local seniors are eligible to win one, of at least three, $500 scholarship(s) to Trinidad State College.

Submissions are welcome from any writing genre, but only one submission of original work is allowed per student, though related art may be included. Submissions are restricted to 1,500 words. All submissions must be received by judges by Monday, March 15. Submissions can be made at www.trinidadstate.edu/creative-writing.

Organizers say all entries will be published within an awards book to be published by Cedar Street Printing in Trinidad.
