Volunteers began working on the first trail at Fishers Peak State Park on Monday, Sept. 21.
Twenty volunteers from around the area came together to begin work on the first 1.25-miles of the trail that will open to the public at the new state park by the beginning of 2021.
John Brackney a crew leader from Denver spoke to participants about safety at the beginning of the day then led the group to the places where they will begin work. Volunteers registered via the Trinidad Lake State Park Facebook page and other social media sites.
Work continued Tuesday, Sept. 22 and weekend work is also scheduled.
Fishers Peak State Park Manager Crystal Dreiling says more volunteer opportunities will likely become available in the future, and those interested should visit the Trinidad Lake Facebook page.
