Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office has finally confirmed the identity of the person killed in the recent Aguilar house fire as Cirilo Lobatos.
Lobatos leaves behind three children and his wife, according to the fundraising website GoFundMe where an account was set up to help the family with expenses.
“My sister tried to put it out, but it was already uncontrollable so she woke everyone up,” said Vanessa Borrego, who established the account. “She and her husband where able to get all of the kids out, but sadly in the mix of the father trying to save his kids, he was not able to make it out alive. He left behind three children, age 4, 9, and 12 years old, and his wife. They came out with only what they where wearing.”
The blaze was reported Tuesday, Oct. 29, just after midnight in the 300 block of South Antonio Avenue in Aguilar. Residents of the home told deputies there was still one person in the house as firefighters fought the flames. No one else was injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
