On Saturday, June 15, South Korean Consulate General Joon-yong Park, honored Korean Conflict/War veterans and/or their family members from our area with the Peace Medal in a ceremony at Trinidad State in Trinidad.

Park was brought to the area thanks to Las Animas County Veteran Services Officer Ray Odum and through many volunteers and generous donations.

Twenty-seven peace medals were awarded during the event.

Odum first addressed the crowd and was followed by Las Animas County Commissioner Felix Lopez who expressed his, Las Animas County’s and the citizens of Las Animas County’s gratitude to these veterans to the Peace Medal Ceremony crowd.

Both the United States and Korean flags were displayed at the event. Also in attendance was U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division representative Scott J. Evans, Trinidad Mayor Phil Rico, County Commissioner Tony Hass and County Commissioner Luis Lopez II.

In his remarks, South Korean Consulate General Joon-yong Park expressed his and South Korea’s heart felt thankfulness to the vets and their families for the sacrifices they made.

Twenty-three of the 27 veterans, or their family members, attended the ceremony and were recipients of the peace medals.
