A Trinidad man was arrested at approximately 8:10 a.m. on Sunday, July 7 and has been charged with seven felony counts for his alleged role in an apparently failed kidnapping attempt at the Western Apartments, located in the 400 block of East North Avenue.
Alturo Esteban Acuna, age 39, has been charged with first degree felony counts of kidnapping and burglary, and a single felony count of second degree kidnapping, along with single felony counts of false imprisonment, menacing, possession of weapons by a previous offender and criminal mischief. Acuna is currently being held without bond at the Las Animas County Jail.
Acuna is alleged to have held a knife to his victim’s throat, but the victim was able to escape his captor by leaping through an apartment window, but later refused medical attention, according to the reports.
A Trinidad Police Department said, “The victim identified Arthur Acuna, 39 years old, as the suspect. Officers were able to conclude their investigation and make contact with Acuna the same day and take him into custody without incident.”
