On Monday, Oct. 23, The Chronicle-News published a photo we believed to be a past Hoehne High School baseball team found by reader Tonya Benich from Greeley (whose father-in-law Tom Benich coached the team). We asked our readers for help identifying the young men in the photo and readers Ken and Debie Foster stepped up to take on the research.

Wrote the Fosters: “[The photo] is the 1953 baseball and softball teams — most of us played both. George Johnson (No. 1 on the bottom row) was our team manager [and] next to George is Gerald Maglia who was in the eighth grade and was our batboy (at the start of his later great high school baseball career.) This was Coach Benich’s first year at Hoehne and he was an outstanding track star at Denver University and may have held some records.”

Debie Foster wrote that team member Anthony Cappellucci was a big help identifying the photo along with Gerald Maglia and Frank Milinazzo.
