Salud Family Health Centers is announcing the opening of a new dental clinic on February 10, in Trinidad. The dental clinic is located at 928 Smith Street and located next to the Salud Medical Clinic in the Mt. Carmel Health and Wellness complex at 911 Robinson Ave.

Salud’s Chief Executive Officer John Santistevan said, “Bringing dental services to Trinidad has been a goal since Salud opened the medical clinic, we are excited to continue to respond to the needs of the community.”

This dental clinic features six dental chairs and provides dental services to all members of the community and surrounding areas.

“We are excited to add comprehensive dental services to our existing medical clinic to meet the oral health care needs for Trinidad,” said Salud Chief Dental Officer Ethan Kerns, DDS.

A full time dentist and dental hygienist staff the new dental clinic. Charlie Belting, DDS, serves as the dentist and has practiced for over 35 years. Dr. Belting is excited to be part of the opening and establishment of this new clinic and has experience treating oral health needs in rural communities throughout Colorado.

Registered Dental Hygienist Jean Velasquez has been working at Salud since September 2019 providing services in the medical clinic.

“This new dental clinic would not be possible without the generous donations of foundations, all committed to providing access to affordable and quality dental services in Trinidad and the surrounding Las Animas County,” said Salud Vice President of Development Jennifer Morse. “Salud is incredibly grateful for the financial support of The Colorado Health Foundation, Caring for Colorado, The Gates Family Foundation, Delta Dental Foundation and El Pomar Foundation.”

Salud’s Dental clinic will accept Medicaid, CHP+, Colorado Senior Dental Program and Delta Dental insurance and offers a sliding fee payment scale based on family size and income Morse explained.

Salud is seeking ongoing operational support for the Dental Clinic’s operation to help offset the cost of providing services on a sliding fee scale.

“Salud is a non-profit, 501c3,” said Morse, “and depends on donations to support programs and services.”
