The senior citizens at Segundo’s Kennedy Senior Citizens Center celebrated their new badly needed CookRite commercial stainless-steel range. At times, the food being served was a challenge for the volunteer workers when the ovens of the two old stoves heated unevenly. Tercio Foundation, an affiliate of The Moore Charitable Foundation, founded by Louis Bacon, awarded the center with a generous grant for $3,000 to purchase this wonderful new commercial stove that will service the center for many years in the future. We deeply appreciate Tercio’s financial help to serve the community.
The members of the Segundo center also want to express our appreciation to the Stonewall Firefighters for coming to the center to uncrate, install the legs and get the massive commercial stove into the building. Helping us is just one of the many activities our firefighters and first responders do for our community.
Local seniors gather at the Segundo senior center at noon on Mondays and Wednesdays to enjoy meeting friends and neighbors, share the latest news, eat nutritious balanced meals and play games. The number of members attending the center has doubled in recent years but there is always room for others. Many of our people live alone so spending time at the center is an important part of their lives.
Segundo’s Kennedy Senior Citizen Center is still seeking operational funding. Officers of the center have attended Las Animas County Commissioners meetings but we have not received funding in many years from our county. We want to express our appreciation to the few wonderful folks in this area that have stepped up to help us stay active for the local seniors. There are not enough words to express our thanks to the devoted volunteers who work untiringly to serve at the center.
