Area firefighters put out a small wildfire by 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, with no reports of fatalities or injuries and no structures being destroyed. The blaze was reported just to the west of Exit 27 off of Interstate 25 near Tollerburg Road in what is reported to be a heavily wooded area. The blaze was reported burning on less than five acres between Trinidad and Aguilar on Thursday but was extinguished by firefighters from the Boncarbo Fire Department, with mutual aid assistance available from the Spanish Peaks and Fisher’s Peak Fire Departments. Firefighters returned to the scene of the fire on Friday morning, July 5 to make sure the fire was completely extinguished, but firefighters found no signs of smoke or flames at that time.

The fire was first reported to authorities at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 at an address tentatively identified as 30750 Tollerburg Road, with the Spanish Peaks Fire Department requesting mutual aid and brush trucks from other area departments. Firefighters and emergency responders returned to the scene early Friday morning, July 5 on a report of a fire victim who was allegedly suffering from an asthma attack, but no one was hospitalized due to the alleged medical incident.
