The Trinidad Workforce Center will host a combined hiring event and resource fair on Thursday, September 5 as part of Workforce Development Month.

The event runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Trinidad Workforce Center, 140 North Commercial Street in Trinidad. Representatives from several local businesses will be at the event with full-time and part-time positions to be filled. For job seekers, the job fair provides an opportunity to meet face-to-face with recruiters, learn about a variety of companies and the positions that are open for hire.

But the event is more than a job fair, it will also offer participants the opportunity to talk with staff from the Trinidad Workforce Center and other resource providers about challenges and how to get ahead.

“It’s an opportunity to begin plotting out a course, considering what’s needed to overcome any obstacles and move forward,” says Betty Velasquez, director of the Southeast and South Central Workforce Centers. “This event is a great time to begin thinking about the big picture and where you want to be in the years ahead.”

Reservations to attend are not necessary and having an account with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s job bank, Connecting Colorado (www.connectingcolorado.com) is helpful, but is not required. Job seekers can learn more by contacting the Trinidad Workforce Center at 719-846-9221.

This special event is part of Keep Colorado Working Day in which Workforce Centers across Colorado stage hiring events. September 5 is an informal kickoff to Workforce Development Month an annual spotlight on the many services and resources available to the state’s labor force and the Colorado businesses that hire them.

Workforce Development Month began modestly in 2004 with a handful of events.  Today, sixteen years later, the month-long series of events has grown to include more than 70 workshops, open houses, job fairs, employer seminars and online features.  For a full listing of all the Workforce Development Month events, go to the calendar on the Department of Labor and Employment’s website at www.colorado.gov/cdle.
