Last Friday, May 29, just before 5 p.m. an accident occurred when a semi truck on Interstate 25 was reported to have struck an 8-year-old boy. Trinidad Police and Fire and Medical responded to the call.
Upon arrival officers found the child and immediately shut down a portion of I-25 to have the child transported to Mt. San Rafael Emergency Room and clear the scene. He was later flown by Flight for Life to Colorado Springs Children’s Hospital.
Officers were able to speak with the semi driver as well as a witness who had been following behind the semi when the incident happened.
Trinidad Police Department with technical assistance from the Colorado State Patrol is continuing their investigation of the scene. There is no suspicion of drugs or alcohol involved in the incident.
