Las Animas County added a single case of COVID-19 over the weekend, following an additional case also reported in Huerfano County.
This comes after the Las Animas Huerfano County District Health Department tested 870 local residents over a three-day span at the COVID-19 Community Testing Site last week.
“The turnout was amazing,” said the health department in a message last week. “On Monday, we had 315 people tested, Tuesday 286 and Wednesday we had 270 people tested. Anyone who was tested will be notified of negative or positive result within the next 48 to 72 hours.”
The department continues to maintain that testing along with wearing masks, washing hands and maintaining a safe distance from others are the keys to controlling the spread of COVID-19.
If you have questions regarding the Huerfano Community Testing Site or general questions about COVID the health department asks that you call 719-846-2213 or 719-738-2950.
Including the most recent case, Las Animas County has had 29 total cases of COVID-19 and currently six of those cases are active. The most recent case was detected in a man in his 50s.
In Huerfano County the most recent case was identified in a woman in her 30s. The county has nine active cases and has had 26 cases overall.
Said the health department, “While the number of new cases in each age group remain low, locally and across the State we are seeing an increase that is concerning.”
