On Thursday, June 18, at approximately 10 p.m., Trinidad Police Department (TPD) officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired at the intersection of Alta and Robinson. One individual, Matthew Swetky, had sustained a single gunshot wound according to a press release from TPD.
Another party, who fled the scene after helping Swetky into the ER, reportedly brought Swetky into Mount San Rafael Hospital (MSRH) emergency room. MSRH ER staff treated Swetky and then transported him to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo to receive further treatment.
Also stated in the report, once officers arrived on scene, all involved parties had already fled the area. One bystander who lives nearby and saw what happened claimed several involved hung around the intersection until police arrived.
“I was on my front porch with my wife talking with the neighbor,” said resident Andrew Cecava. “Then a black Jeep pulls a U-turn right in front of the house and I notice a silver Sedan in the intersection the jeep was heading directly towards. I thought someone was going to get hit because some teens were already hopping out of the sedan. When they were side by side we heard six or seven shots and saw the flashes so we ducked into the carport. Both vehicles fled and the ones that were left walking appeared uninjured. They waited at the intersection and the cops cleared them pretty quick. Three left the scene that I thought I saw get out of the Sedan, one male and two females, after the cops talked to them. Maybe they got by on a bad fib.”
Officers investigated the scene and spoke with witnesses. At this time, the Trinidad Police Department is looking for two persons of interest in this incident: Arturo Acuna who is believed to be driving a 2013 silver Chrysler 200 and Tyler Camp who is believed to be driving a black Jeep.
