Positive cases of COVID-19 have steadily come in from the Las Animas and Huerfano County Health Department with another update on October 12 stating Las Animas County had 15 active cases and Huerfano County had four active.
There are eight cases in Las Animas County and one in Huerfano County that coincide with increased testing within Las Animas County with the local health department offering free testing at the Sheriff’s Office at 2309 E. Main Street in Trinidad.
Of the eight new cases in Las Animas County, one is a male in his teens, one a female in her 30s, two males in their 40s, one male and one female in their 60s, and two females in their 80s. One of the females in their 80s is hospitalized with the rest recovering at home.
In Huerfano County, the one new case reported was a male in his 60s who is recovering at home.
With close contacts continuing to be notified by the department, their release stated as a reminder that individuals should continue practicing social distancing and taking necessary precautions.
“It is up to each of us to keep our communities safe and healthy,” said the department. “We can take action to reduce the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask, washing our hands, and staying six feet apart. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 we recommend you get tested.”
The department also stated COVID-19 symptoms may appear as: Fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea.
