A man identified as Diego Hurtado, age 21, is the apparent victim of an exploding package in Trinidad early Monday morning.
Police were dispatched to the 300 block of E. North Ave. at 1 a.m. and were told by a second party that he and Hurtado were walking through the parking lot when they noticed a package. The man said Hurtado picked up the package and when he opened it there was an explosion.
Hurtado’s status is unknown, but he was transported to a hospital via helicopter.
Police say they responded to a similar incident on Friday in the Walmart parking lot but gave no details and did not alert the public of the threat.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) is investigating and the Pueblo Metro Bomb Squad also responded.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call the ATF at 1-888-ATF-BOMB.
The ATF advises the public that if a package appears suspicious, not to open it and contact law enforcement.
