Dear Editor,

Trinidad and Las Animas County has been blessed with outstanding paramedics with excellent equipment. However, Proposition 6A, to increase Trinidad Ambulance District funding by an [additional] million dollars a year, is without merit.

By their own minutes, TAD has over $3.5 million in cash (savings and checking) on hand and July income was an additional $185,000. Additional funding from the taxpayers is simply not needed with that huge amount of funds already available. There is no purpose to additional taxes to simply increase the bank balance.

Voters should also be aware that this funding is only for 911-type emergency services. In the near future, Trinidad Ambulance will stop providing any intrafacility transfers, such as from Mt. San Rafael Hospital to Parkview for specialized care. Their current funding structure is more than sufficient to continue their excellent emergency responses.
