The Trinidad Rotary Club held its annual golf tournament to raise money for the purchase of Illustrated Children’s Scholastic Dictionaries for all third grade students in Las Animas County on Friday, June 14.
Tournament directors, Sharon Sciacca and Fred Vaugeois, report that 18 four-person teams participated in the unique tournament format called a “Scramble with a Hot Ball.”
The format consists of one player on each team posting an individual score and three members playing a traditional scramble. The tournament was held at the Trinidad Municipal Golf Course and included 72 individual participants.
President of IN Bank in Trinidad, Joey DeGarbo said, “We had a great time playing in this unique tournament format while raising funds for such a worthy cause. It was also special because our son J.J. came from California to play on our team.”
The Trinidad Rotary Club has distributed dictionaries each December for the past 17 years. Several players in the tournament were students who received copies of the dictionary when they were third grade students in years past.
