Following a high school girl’s basketball season that saw her team go 23-3, Trinidad native Payden (Ackerman) Goldberg earned conference Coach of the Year honors and has recently been selected to coach in the annual Colorado High School Coaches’ Association All-State Game.
Goldberg is the head coach for the Sand Creek High School girl’s basketball team. Her team swept the Pikes Peak Athletics Conference with a 14-0 mark and earned the No. 1 seed this year for the Colorado High School Athletic Association’s class 4A state basketball tournament, before the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
Pikes Peak Athletics Conference coaches chose Goldberg as Coach of the Year and she was recently selected to coach in the Colorado High School Coaches’ Association All-State Game on July 13 at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Goldberg played in the game herself when she was a player for Trinidad High School.
“Playing in the All State game was a memorable experience from my high school career and a tradition I am humbled to be a part of as a coach. The All State games provide a wonderful opportunity to come together and showcase the talent and hard work of these student-athletes,” said Goldberg.
This season was Goldberg’s third at Sand Creek. Goldberg boasts a career win percentage of near 70 percent. “This season was a special for these young ladies and when they put all the pieces together, they are capable of greatness, on and off the court,” she said.
