MARRIAGE REELING AFTER FAMILY’S HORRIFIC LOSS OF CHILD IN HOUSE FIRE

DEAR ABBY: Our house burned down a year ago, and we lost everything. My husband, “Jeff,” tried desperately to get to our 2-year-old daughter, but she perished in the fire. I managed to get our 3-year-old son out while he was trying to save our daughter. Jeff ended up in a burn unit on a ventilator for nine days because he burned his lungs. When he was released from the hospital, things got worse.

TMS hosts student achievement awards

Trinidad Middle School showed recognition to over half of its student population late last week for those students who met adequate growth shown through standardized testing scores. Some 132 students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades — or 66% of the TMS student body — were called to the TMS cafeteria Thursday, March 3 for an awards ceremony complete with ice cream and certificates of recognition.

CSP urges state’s youngest drivers not to speed

In an effort to reduce speeding in less experienced drivers across the state, Colorado State Patrol’s new “Don’t Chase Cool” campaign will run from March 1, through May 30. With messaging geared specifically for Colorado’s youngest drivers ranging in age from 16-21 and their parents/guardians, this campaign’s point is simple — slow down on the roadways because speeding isn’t cool.
