Cooking in different countries just fascinates me — it always has. The exotic sounding names of so many unfamiliar ingredients and the amazing aromas they create are so interesting. Take garam masala for instance, which I learned about from our reporter P.K. when he was with us here in Trinidad a number of years ago.

Primero high school boys basketball wins two, loses one at districts; narrowly advance to regional play

The Primero Bulldogs, with a 14-8 record, faced three district opponents this past week. The Bulldogs won the first game against the Manzanola Bobcats 43-36, lost the second game against the Springfield Longhorns 35-33 and won the final game against the La Veta Redhawks 41-38. Due to their win against the Bobcats and Redhawks, the Bulldogs advanced to regionals.

Las Animas County officially declines full economic development district membership for time being

Las Animas County will remain a non-voting member of the Southern Colorado Economic Development District for the time being after a unanimous vote last week by county commissioners. The Las Animas County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 to decline joining the economic development district this year at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, March 1, with one commissioner raising the point that services would overlap with services already seen in the county.

Regina Helen Barrack Havens

Regina Helen Barrack Havens, a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on March 1, 2022 at 9:11 pm in Phoenix, Arizona. She follows her parents Roger George Barrack Sr. and Margaret Najar Barrack. She is survived by her brother Roger Barrack Jr. (Jane), her three children, Jennifer DʼOliveira (Michael), Robert Havens (Nancy), and Lee Havens (Nancy), grandchildren, Nicholas DʼOliveira, Alyssa Havens (Scott), Sarah Havens, and Jesse Havens and her greatgrandson Aidan Potterton. Regina was born in Trinidad, Colorado and was a devout Catholic.
