Burmese artist, Trinidad resident displays his work on the Carnegie Library Art Wall

Sitt Nyein Aye came from a small village in the country of Burma, which was renamed Myanmar in 1989. After arriving in America 10 years ago, Aye lived in Austin, Texas, where he drew this series of pictures that eventually found their way to the Art Wall dispay at the Carnegie Library. Now a Trinidad resident, a wonderful artist and avid photographer, Aye has shared his work with the readers of The Chronicle-News from time to time over the past several years. The Library has a new display each month and all interested parties are encouraged to call Tom Potter at 719-846-6841 to arrange an opportunity to showcase their work.

Mary “Maxine” Duran

Mary “Maxine” age 85 was called to Heaven on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, near her home in Segundo, CO as a result of a vehicle accident that also took her daughter, Cheryl Lynn. Maxine was born on July 31, 1936, in her Segundo home. Our Grandma would say, the bells at St. Ignatius Church were ringing, celebrating St. Ignatiusʼ feast day, as our mom was being born. Maxine (Derrera) was born to Ferdinand Derrera, Sr.and Teresa (Gonzales) Derrera of Segundo, CO. Maxine was a loving mother, grammie, great-grammie, sister, and aunt. She was presided in death by her daughter, Bernadette and husband, Jose “ Butter” Duran.

Cheryl “Cherrie” Lynn Duran

Cheryl “Cherrie” Lynn age 60 was called to Heaven on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, near her home in Segundo, CO as a result of a vehicle accident that also took the life of her mother. Cheryl was born in Trinidad, CO to Mary “Maxine” (Derrera) and Jose “ Butter” Duran of Segundo, CO. Cheryl graduated from Trinidad High School in 1981 and she was an all-around handy woman, always willing to help whoever needed a helping hand. Cheryl was well known by everyone and it always amazed her family to see how many people knew her personally. She always stopped to talk to people she knew or even talked to the ones she would just meet. She inherited this trait from her dad.

Alfred Gutierrez

Alfred Gutierrez passed away on February 23rd in his home in Trinidad, Colorado. He was born to Maria Maclovia and Antonio Gutierrez. He was married to the love of his life, Rita Gutierrez (Cordova) for 65 years. He is survived by his sister Ercie, and her husband Alfonso Maes, his brother Frank and his wife, Kitty Tafoya, and also his sister Viola Smith. He was preceded, in death, by his two sons, Alan and Wayne Gutierrez. The remaining four children he left are Joyce, and her husband Tom Romero. Randall Gutierrez, Sue and her husband Shawn Abraham, and also Mario and his wife Gina Gutierrez. There are 12 grandchildren and 5 great grand children. He is also survived by numerous family members and dearest friends.
