Residents and tourists may have seen a new art fixture in town — well not exactly new, but repaired at least — since it suffered severe damage last spring to the concrete birdbath fountain part of the display, due to aging and winter weather-related issues.
Trinidad Middle School held a “Leadership Day” last Thursday, offering the community and parents the opportunity to see student leadership in action throughout an event-filled day. TMS students shared their leadership talents in various ways — ranging from door-greeters, to tour guides, to talent show participants to students teaching other students as their regular (adult) teachers looked on and participated in the lessons.

Bonnie Jean Roybal, age 78, passed away in Pueblo, CO on April 21, 2022. Bonnie was preceded in death by husband, Filbert Roybal, parents Helen and Wiley Babbitt, siblings Ethel Hochevar, Gladys Armstrong, Randy Hochevar, Thelma Kissick and in laws, Blanche and Gilbert Torres and Jennie Patton.
DEAR ABBY: My fiance, “Rowan,” and I are getting married this year. It is my second marriage and his first. Rowan has a young son I’ll call “Sean” from a previous relationship. I have a good relationship with Sean, and expressed to Rowan that I’d love to include Sean on our honeymoon, so we can have a proper first family vacation. (Rowan’s custody agreement states that no unmarried parties may live together when their child is present in the home.)
Close to 30 young and budding creative writers received recognition during the 2022 Las Animas County Writing Competition awards ceremony — with the writers falling into four different categories. The competition, which started in 1997, provides local students an opportunity to share and develop their creativity.
