Virginia (Chavez) Lopez of Trinidad, Colorado went to her heavenly home on April 23, 2022. She was 94 years young and was a life-time resident of Las Animas County. She was born on May 20, 1927 to Marcial and Rosa Chavez in North Fork, Colorado. She attended school in Stone Wall and later met and married the love of her life, John F. Lopez. She settled and raised her family in Vigil, Colorado, until she moved to Trinidad in the early 1970s. She is preceded in death by her husband John, sons Frank Lopez and Michael Lopez, and Daughter Gloria (Ron) Trujillo, her parents and several siblings. She is survived by her remaining children Shirley (Ron) Emerson, Lawrence (Gwen) Lopez, anf honorary adopted son Manuel“Manny” (Michael) Trujillo-Aragon; as well as, her grandchildren: Mary Louise Lopez, Melissa Brown, Melinda Washington, Maylynn Vigil, Michael Lopez Jr., Kahn Lopez, Amanda Larson, Melanie Hammock, Valerie Stovall, Frank Lopez, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and several siblings. The family would also like to thank special friend Toni Mantelli for visiting with Virginia dailyand providing the family with so much love and support. Virginia was a feisty but loving individual. She truly loved her family and was grateful for the many blessings she was granted. She loved her baby Dixie (her canine companion), and she loved tending to her home, cooking for her family, and she especially loved her morning coffee and sugar cookies. The family would like to thank those who have reached out and given their love and support at this time. A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 3 – 7 PM at Comi Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary to follow at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Holy Trinity Church at 10 AM, with interment at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
