WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet today welcomed President Joe Biden’s nomination of Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor to serve as U.S. Marshal for the District of Colorado. Hickenlooper and Bennet recommended Taylor for the position, which will require confirmation by the U.S. Senate.

Trinidad City Council approved nearly $750,000 in marijuana sales tax expenditures during its regular meeting Tuesday, including the approval of 17 city project requests. Trinidad marijuana dispensaries sold $11,632,401 of marijuana during Q1 2022, raising $749,463 in city sales taxes.

Trinidad Mayor Phil Rico has called for a public forum for Trinidad City Council members to hear and respond to concerns held by the public on various issues. Mayor Rico suggested the idea during council’s last regular meeting Tuesday, June 7 and received support from other members of council.
The Las Animas County Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution adjusting fees for temporary use/ special event permits during a regular meeting this month. The change only applies for events that plan to have 500 or more attendees and has been seen as a way for the county government to keep tabs on events happening within the county.
