Trinidad’s proposed gas rate increase passed first reading on a 6-0 vote Tuesday night, but still needs to pass a second reading later this month before any proposed changes become effective. The City of Trinidad has proposed a gas rate increase for both commercial and residential customers, citing rising natural gas costs as the reason for the proposal and a need to balance the gas department’s budget.

The Trinidad Police Department responded to or initiated some 253 incidents between Thursday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 7, including drunks, suspicious incidents and welfare checks. The call log requests for June 2 through June 9 were not sent before press deadline. The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office did not send its call logs before deadline. The following report contains calls from May 26 through June 1.

I typically don’t think much about sleep. But when you fly through seven or more time zones in a single day, as I have done on more than one occasion, you think about it. When everyone else is getting up, your body is begging to go to bed. When everyone else is settling down for a good night’s sleep, your body is wide awake and looking for something to do. It takes a few days, at least, to “reset the body clock.”
Dear Editor, I was recently asked to lead a group of kids from the Trinidad Youth Club on a hike to learn some of our common birds, and we did have a lovely walk in the new Boulevard Addition. But we first had to survive Cimino Park.
