Huerfano County continues to have the highest unemployment rate in the state and ranks seventh for the lowest household earnings in the state. Las Animas County, meanwhile, has the fourth highest rate of unemployment in Colorado and is No. 14 on a list of lowest earning households.
Earlier this month, Australian helium exploration and production company, Blue Star Helium, reported finding high concentrations of the gas in three wells and plans to drill more in Las Animas County’s Model Dome field.
