DENVER — Monument Lake won a $171,427 Fishing is Fun grant from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The funds will be used to install a new fishing pier to increase fishing access at the lake.

Trinidad Police Department responded to or initiated some 378 incidents between Thursday, July 21 and Wednesday, July 27, including a sexual assault, unattended death, alleged public crack use and public masturbation. The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office saw 268 incidents during the same time period, including sex offender registration, welfare checks, shots fired, an animal bite, fights and a click it or ticket incident.

Trinidad’s set to become a little tastier with the addition of a downtown location for Trinidad Tea Company. The locally owned business, offering tea by the cup and by the bag, is expected to open its doors to the public later this summer or early-September.
