Anita Montoya

Anita Montoya, 83, of Trinidad, CO passed away on July 3rd. She left behind a family who loved and cherished her. She had 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren with 2 on the way. Anita's extensive career as an RN and head nurse of several departments, including the delivery of many babies has touched countless lives. Her artistic ability, dedication to her faith and loyalty to family and friends will forever be remembered. Please join us for grave site services at the Masonic Cemetery on July 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith Christian Fellowship on July 16, 2022 at 11:00 am, with a reception after the service. Location of reception to be announced at a future date.

Last week we went on an “almost post-COVID” cruise to Alaska. There were still testings and protocols to pass, but the cruise business is back. What made the week truly spectacular was going with our best friends from college. We had a great time exploring new places and reflecting. We were young when we first met. My wife and our friends were fresh from high school graduations in Texas and Kentucky. I was older and wiser by a year or two.

Ft. Carson firefighters recap Black Hills Fire at PCMS

Fort Carson firefighters partnered with multiple-agency fire-fighters to extinguish a large wildland fire at the post’s Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site (PCMS) June 17-24. The blaze, started by a lightning strike early on June 17, doubled in size by the next day and occurred in such a remote area of the training site that fire engines were incapable of reaching it, according to Peter Wolf, assistant fire chief of operations at PCMS and the incident commander for the wildfire, dubbed The Black Hills Fire.
