Mary Rose Martorano went to meet the Lord on Saturday, September 24, 2022. She was 88. She was born in Trinidad, Colorado on August 15, 1934, to Marian and Ross DeBono. She married the love of her life Charles Martorano sharing 65 years together. It was an eternal love made in heaven.

County schools see nearly 77% decline in police-students contacts

Law enforcement contacts with K-12 students in Las Animas County declined between the 20182019 school year and the 2020-2021 school year, according to a report from the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice. During those three years, official law enforcement contacts in the county declined nearly 77%, due to a decline in one school district.

History Colorado reports to Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs on progress of Native American boarding schools

DENVER — This past legislative session, state representatives from across Colorado recognized the trauma of the boarding school legacy and the need to both acknowledge and understand Colorado’s history with federal Native American boarding schools and develop a roadmap for understanding. The legislature affirmed this through the passage of HB22-1327, the Federal Indian Boarding School Research Program Act, signed into law by Governor Jared Polis on May 24.
