A man who led law enforcement on a vehicle pursuit through two southeastern Colorado counties has been convicted to six years in the Colorado Department of Corrections. Derrek Wayne Sandoval (age 28), whose address is listed as Trinidad, received six years in the CDOC after pleading guilty to felony vehicular eluding.
Trinidad’s firemen are continuing a longstanding holiday tradition and said the tradition is expanding this year to greater-Las Animas County. The Trinidad Fireman’s Toy Drive, which has provided Trinidad’s youth with Christmas gifts since 1976, will run again this year; but this year it will also include youth from Las Animas County.

Trinidad Police Department announced its annual Shop with a Cop event will occur in late-December and is asking the community for donations to help bring Christmas cheer to local children. The program pairs police officers with children for a holiday shopping experience.
