NAAWA shelter fails fifth inspection in 12 months, remains out of state compliance

NAAWA Executive Director Matt Lewis, who declined to comment for this report, told The Chronicle-News late last year that all the issues raised prior to his start date in August have been addressed. “We understand that NAAWA is an integral part of the Trinidad community and want to make sure we are giving the organization every opportunity to become compliant and successful under new leadership, while also making sure the animals in their care are safe and protected,” Nick Fisher, PAFCA program section chief said in an email.

Crime report for Jan. 5 — Jan. 11: Incidents include ‘transient problems,’ burglary, thefts, hit and run

Trinidad Police Department responded to or initiated some 227 incidents between Thursday, Jan. 5, and Wednesday, Jan. 11, including “transient problems,” burglary, theft and hit and run. The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office saw 221 incidents between Dec. 29, 2022, and Jan. 11, including numerous traffic stops, accidents, fraud, shoplifting and theft.
