Nonprofits urge more controlled burning to prevent wildfires in 11 western states

A new report by two nonprofit organizations is advocating 11 western states change local and state policies to increase controlled burning on private lands to stem wildfires. “Modern wildfires are not only burning larger areas but are also more harmful for people, forests, and the environment,” according to the publication “Burn Back Better,” produced by the Property and Environment Research Center and Tall Timbers.

Seven Trinidad wrestlers to compete this weekend at state

Trinidad Mighty Miners will be hitting the mats in Denver this week during the 2023 Colorado Class 2AA State Wrestling Championships at Ball Arena. Seven members of the Trinidad Miner Wrestling Team will enter this year’s state tourney, with Eddie Bowman (38-0) entering the competition as the top seed at 132 lbs., after he took first place at regionals in La Junta last week.

Primero’s first-ever wrestling team qualifies half of the team for state

In Primero’s first-ever year of having a competitive high school wrestling team, three out of its six members placed at districts and qualified for state. The Primero Bulldogs attended the Colorado High School Athletic Association’s Class 2AA Regional Wrestling Tournament, hosted by Rocky Ford High School, but held at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Feb.
