Colfax County releases Kern, RHS audit report showing supporting evidence of lawsuit

Colfax County has released a forensic accounting report, that it says, supports claims it has made against a former county manager and a medical services contractor in an ongoing lawsuit. The 62-page report, released this month, is some of the strongest evidence released since Colfax County accused former Colfax County Manager Mary Lou Kern and Roadrunner Health Services LLC., of mismanaging over $600,000 of public funds.

Bear reports to CPW increase from 2021; trash still No. 1 source of conflicts

Colorado Parks and Wildlife received 4,282 reports of sightings and conflicts with bears in 2022, which was a 16% increase from 2021, but a 1.3% decrease from the previous two years. In 2019, CPW launched a new bear reporting system to help wildlife managers track and quantify bear activity and conflicts across the state.

Culebra Coalition opens 2023 scholarship application for environmental studies students

A local nonprofit, partly focused on promoting environmental stewardship, announced that its environmental scholarship program for 2023 is open. The Culebra Range Community Coalition said this month, that students in the Purgatoire River Watershed seeking to study an environment-related major are eligible to apply for the Culebra Range Community Coalition Environmental Scholarship Program.

Colorado baker to appeal ruling he violated law for not making cake celebrating gender transition

A Colorado baker will appeal a Thursday ruling by the state Court of Appeals upholding that he violated an antidiscrimination law by refusing to create a cake celebrating a gender transition. It’s the latest ruling in a 10-year conflict between Colorado and Jack Phillips, the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood.
