Colorado’s free preschool application is open — here’s what you need to know

The parent application for Colorado’s new free preschool program is now open — a major milestone in the march toward the program’s launch next summer. The program, funded in part by a voter-approved nicotine tax, will offer 10 to 15 hours a week of tuitionfree preschool to 4-year-olds statewide, with some eligible for 30 hours a week.

Colorado regulators are really tripping as they prepare to roll out “magic” mushroom legalization

The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies recently warned state lawmakers that it is unprepared for its assigned job of implementing the state’s new, second-in-the-nation legal “magic mushroom” industry, which voters approved in November. The department — which normally oversees sectors like insurance and banking — is tasked with quickly adopting a regulatory structure under which psychedelic mushrooms can be legally consumed by people 21 and older at licensed facilities.

County gives nod of approval to raise salaries, still needs state approval

Las Animas County’s Board of County Commissioners voiced its support to increase salaries for elected officials, but the Colorado General Assembly will have the final say. TheLasAnimasCounty Board of County Commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to approve a recommendation to adjust salary schedules for elected officials, which would be the first overall raise for the county’s elected officials since 2015.
