Colorado’s $38.5 billion budget proposal increases education funding but must contend with inflation

Colorado’s $38.5 billion proposed budget would increase per student K-12 spending by 8.4% — an increase that barely keeps pace with inflation — and gives a boost to higher education while also allowing public colleges and universities to increase tuition by as much as 5%, the highest increase in the last five years.

State regulators say county’s March quakes not related to natural gas production in Raton Basin

While debate concerning the impact of natural gas production on the frequency of earthquakes continues, Colorado oil and gas regulators say that seismic events seen in Las Animas County during March do not appear to be related to production in the Raton Basin. Las Animas County saw at least 10 earthquakes during the last 30 days (as of March 28) with magnitudes of 2.5 or greater, according to the U.S.

Councilmember sponsors ordinance that would nix tourism board, add ballot question to increase tax

An ordinance sponsored by Trinidad City Councilmember Aaron Williamson, a proponent of tourism in the city, would nix the Trinidad Tourism Board — and replace it with a tourism-focused advisory board that would see more oversight from city council — and approve city officials to list a ballot question seeking to double the tourism tax tourists pay when visiting the city.

Marriage crumbling as couple’s communication becomes bitter

DEAR ABBY: My husband barely speaks to me. We both work full time and are facing the empty nest very soon. At home, I have to initiate even the smallest of small talk. He’ll never say “Good morning” or ask “How was your day?” Although I work hard to keep the house the way he likes it, he speaks up only to criticize the few times I don’t meet his standards.
