The woman who stands accused of setting fire to a Trinidad chiropractor’s office in a reported act of retaliation against her exboyfriend is expected to take a plea deal, although the finalization process saw a delay at the request of her defense. Sherry Abeyta, age 44, is expected to take a plea deal later this spring, according to her attorney, although the prosecution and defense did not have the paperwork for the court during her latest hearing.

The City of Trinidad is seeking additional volunteers to serve on its boards and commissions, announcing 13 vacancies. Available seats are currently found on the Arts & Culture Advisory Commission (three), Library Advisory Board (one), Board of Building Code Appeals (three and two alternates), Urban Forestry Board (two) and the Historic Main Street Board (two).

Fort Carson will celebrate Earth Day 2023 with a public event at Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site, with educational opportunities for students and remarks from the garrison commander. Students in the Trinidad area and southern Colorado residents are invited to attend the celebration Wednesday, April 26, from 9 a.m.
