USDA makes grants availablefor organizations to helppeople in rural New Mexico to repair homes damaged byforest fires in 2022

The grants are being made available through supplemental disaster funding under the Housing Preservation Grants program. Organizations may apply to receive up to $50,000 to help people make repairs to their homes that were damaged by natural disasters in calendar year 2022.

Family member wants flow of unwanted junk to stop

DEAR ABBY: Like many people in this country, my family has an aversion to throwing things out that might still be useful. Rather than load up the van and head to Goodwill, they give the stuff to me -- partially used bottles of shampoo, a half-used pack of wipes, hair conditioner that smells too awful for them to use but they’re sure I’ll like, unwanted change purses and jewelry I would never wear, even puzzles with missing or dog-chewed pieces.

Mayor, city manager, attend 100th anniversary celebration of lobbying group

Trinidad Mayor Phil Rico and Trinidad City Manager Steve Ruger attended the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Colorado Municipal League, a lobbying group for nearly 300 cities and towns statewide. Representatives from the founding membership, including Arvada, Boulder, Brush!, Cañon City, Fort Morgan, Grand Junction, Haxtun, Loveland, Pueblo, Windsor and Trinidad all attended, with Mayor Rico and Windsor Mayor Paul Rennemeyer recasting a vote of support for CML.

Jackson Street shooter takes 29-year plea deal for 2020 murder, sentencing set for late-May

A Trinidad woman who shot another Trinidad resident to death in 2020 took a plea deal this month that will mark her as a habitual felon. Gina Lynn Rael, age 26, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of second-degree murder (a class two felony) and entered into a plea agreement with the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office that dismissed one count of first-degree murder (a class one felony).
