FRPR District treasurer provides Las Animas County rail update, including full member support for train stop in Trinidad, more 

Luis Lopez II, treasurer for Front Range Passenger Rail District and former Las Animas County commissioner, took to the Court House Tuesday, June 17, to give his former contemporaries an update on the FRPR, which included future plans, district thought processes and support for a trains stop in Trinidad and the possibility of a tax initiative ballot measure to support rail funding, which he predicted could be in five years.

21-year-old Trinidad man faces list of charges, a $52,000 bond, following multiple alleged domestic incidences in 21-month span  

Antonio Mejia, 21, had been racking up domestic-related charges, on multiple incidences, since September 2023, with his most recent apprehension on Jun. 6, 2025, which saw the Trinidad man sitting in the Las Animas County Detention Center under a $52,000 bond.

Las Animas County DHS director warns of potential negative consequences of Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ on rural communities, particularly LAC 

Last Tuesday, June 17, the Las Animas County Department of Human Services discussed the potential impacts of the U.S Presedent’s “The One Big Beautiful Bill Act” when the LAC DHS director took to the county Court House, explaining how rural communities, such as LAC, would be among the most impacted, with potentially “significant” consequences.
