Forged in fire: Athlete of the Year Kaylah Crosson, her journey of perseverance 

A car crash back on June 4, 2021, sent Kaylah Crosson “KC” and her older sister on flight-for-life to Colorado Springs. The ultra-competitive preteen heading into her freshmen year, with a bright volleyball and basketball future, was suddenly faced with the possibility of losing her ability to do what she loved most — proving she was the absolute best on the court.

Will to win: Athlete of the Year Isaiah Moreno on his goal for his hometown — bringing THS a state championship  

Boasting three touchdowns on 16 passes, throwing for 168 yards and rushing for 61, Isaiah Moreno, the Trinidad Miner’s starting quarterback, willed his team a victory with not just skill and talent, but a burning desire to win and change the culture of the programs he drives.

Las Animas County prepares to grapple with funding cutbacks amid looming $1.2 billion state budget deficit  

On Tuesday, June 10, Las Animas County commissioners convened for their regular meeting at the Courthouse, during which they mentioned that they soon would have to grapple with program funding drawbacks as the state attempts to operate with a $1.2 billion budget deficit.
