On Aug. 24, a semi-truck carrying lithium batteries was involved in a rollover on Highway 10 in Otero County, which caused an 11-hour closure, following firefighting and clean-up efforts, according to authorities.

140 days since arrest, Festi has yet to make plea
On Aug. 18, Marcus Festi, 29, the Trinidad man who was initially charged with nearly 130 counts of sexual exploitation and sexual assault against a child, had an arraignment hearing (defendant makes plea of guilty or not guilty) at the Las Animas County Courthouse. However, courts granted Festi a new arraignment hearing for Oct. 27, 2025.

Trinidad officials approve change order for water storage tank rehabilitation project, increasing square footage, cost by $210K
During its regular meeting, the Trinidad City Council unanimously approved a change order for the Trinidad Water Storage Tank Rehabilitation Project in the amount of $210,427.29, which will increase the square footage of the north and south side tanks.
