Las Animas County sends letter to Colorado Governor, General Assembly, urging them to reconsider, veto, unfunded mandates  

In a letter signed on Aug. 5 by all three Las Animas County Commissioners, the local officials urged Colorado’s General Assembly to reconsider the volume and scope of unfunded mandates, even asking the state’s Governor, Jared Polis, to exercise his veto power over them.

Convicted felon arrested for first-degree attempted homicide, following alleged incident where Trinidad man survives being shot in head  

On the late night of Aug. 17, at around 10 p.m., John Paul Romero, 57, also known as “Psycho Micheal,” was arrested for first-degree attempted murder, after an officer with the Trinidad Police Department discovered a man with bandages who claimed to have been stuck by a bullet in the forehead, while Romero was firing a 22. caliber pistol at him earlier that evening, leading to an investigation and subsequent arrest.

LAC Commissioner announces application to join state’s Behavioral Health Administration board to ‘push dollars back to rural counties’  

On Aug. 5, Las Animas County Commissioner Felix Lopez announced during the board’s regular meeting that he applied to become part of a state-wide board for the Behavioral Health Administration, which he hoped would help him bring funding back to rural areas.
